Meet John & Martin
With John’s parents moving to assisted living closer to them in Colorado, the couple was inspired to renovate the now-vacant home as a rental house. Aiming to incorporate the New York City hotel aesthetic he remembers from his childhood while creating a source of income, their vision blended personal history and practicality. Their commitment to preserving memories while embracing modern design makes their story uniquely compelling.
The property faced numerous challenges: outdated aesthetics, structural deterioration, and outdated systems. The goal was not just to update but to transform the space into a rental property that retained its emotional significance while meeting contemporary living standards.

The 3-Phase Process
Design
A Virtual Collaboration
Despite the distance, our design team and the homeowners created a shared vision through mood boards, 3D images, and regular virtual meetings.
Our design team chose elements like the penny round tiles and blue cabinets to reflect personal memories and a timeless aesthetic. We also chose neutral paint colors and durable materials since the house will be used as a rental property.

Bridging Distance With Technology
With the homeowners in Colorado, our team used project management software and regular photo updates to ensure transparency and involvement. John and Martin also received consistent positive reports from neighbors about the work crew’s professionalism and the construction site’s cleanliness.
The final phase was kept under wraps for a big reveal, heightening the anticipation and excitement.

What The Client Had To Say
“We have nothing but positive things to say about Box Construction. This was the third time we hired a contractor to make major renovations on our properties. (The other two were in Colorado, where we live.) It was the first time we had absolutely no problems. The project was completed ahead of schedule and exactly on budget.
Our project manager, Chris, sent us daily updates and photos since we are out of state. The final walk-through items were completed in a couple days. Everyone at Box impressed us with their professionalism and friendliness. Even the neighbors raved about how nice all the workers are and how well they kept the site clean during the construction. We would not hesitate a second in hiring Box again.”
